CYPRUS PAVILION CONCEPT
The beautifully decorated and ornately illuminated Cyprus pavilion for EXPO ZARAGOZA 2008 was designed in a visitor friendly way, allowing everyone, through the use of multimedia presentations, to get acquainted with elements of the water cycle.
These presentations offer maximum information on water resources management and the water conservation procedures already established in Cyprus, as well as the country’s history, beauty and tourist attractions, which have rendered it a popular tourist destination, characterized by crystal clear seas, mild climate, magnificent green mountain villages and hospitable people. The overall scene provides a comfortable and easy navigation tour for visitors, driven by emotions of an ambient atmosphere provided through the use of multimedia presentations.
The whole of the island has sprung out of the sea, just like Aphrodite, the goddess of love who has been worshiped in our country and whose statue decorates together with other important archaeological findings this pavilion, attesting to the Cypriot’s relationship with water since antiquity.
All of the pavilion’s surfaces have been decorated with a composition of images from the history of water in Cyprus as well as with elements from patterns decorating ancient vessels with emphasis on Erodios, as painted during the geometric period, almost 3000 years ago.
Erodios is also our guide during a multimedia tour on a 16 sq.m. screen. This production presents Cyprus’ relationship with rain water, as well as the management of the water, resulting to a green, fertile Cyprus, with a remarkable 10000 year civilization.
The Pavilion visitor has the opportunity to admire the natural resources of the country, its traditions, its craftsmen and the huge achievements of the European Cyprus in its effort to solve the water problem and manage water resources in a balanced way.
In the center of the pavilion, a transparent illuminated cylindrical construction, in the form of a small cascade, which reuses water mechanically, indicates the cycle of water just like it is shown by the multimedia production. The multimedia presentation is accompanied by original music, which has elements of Cypriot folk music, adding thereby an ethnic color to it.
At a carefully selected spot, there are four interactive stations with touch screens which give visitors the opportunity to learn more about Cyprus, its history and tradition, its attractions and other elements. In addition, four TV monitors show sights of interest of Cyprus, completing the visitor’s information package.
